This month we feature one of Stephen, aka puddlejumper's, collection of cars.
In Stepen's own words: As a teenager there was 3 cars I always wanted to have.
The 1st was a black Toyota AE86 Corolla Coupe(acquired in 2000)
The second was the VP500 and the third will be arriving in mid Feb (watch this space).
It took 10 years but I got there.
B728 MAD was 1st registered on 1st August 1984 and is number 430 of 500.
The car was owned by the original owner (an elderly gentleman) until March 2007
clocking up a total of 9000 miles and was then sold to a dealer
who sold it to the lady I bought it off.
It has never been welded and most of the bodywork is in fantastic condition,
(probably the shiniest finish I have ever seen on a metro) and is completely original.
The front valance is showing it age and needs painting again as does the area aound
the tailgate rear wiper.
The only modifications to this car were the addition of mudflaps and a modified distributer.
The original 8000 mile pepperpot alloys and VP centre caps were removed for preservation
when the previous owner purchased the car and were supplied.
The car came on gold painted pepperpots as per photos.
The interior is completely original condition and came with the original stereo.
The interior is in excellent condition with the exception of the 2/3rd rear seat as
it looks like the original owner must have taken his cat with him everywhere!
Included with the service history were 3 letters from the original owner to the dealer,
confirming the mileage and stating “this car has been carefully run in for it‘s first 8000 miles “
and “This car has always been carefully washed/cleaned/ polished by hand”
and also a comprehensive set of (pre Satnav) directions
which include 2 warnings written in red ink about a particular motorway junction.
This car needs only minimal tidying to be presentable and I am going to use this as my show car this year,
so hopefully you will see it at some of the club meets this year
I found the car on the internet simply by typing in “VP500 for sale”
after one of the members on here mentioned that was how they found theirs.
It was mentioned on an American mini forum that the car would be going up for sale shortly.
It was posted by a UK resident and I subsequently made contact and agreed purchase in principal.
The car is currently on SORN and in storage in my garage safe from the elements.
