Back to Car of the Month.

Tom has kindly allowed us to feature his Auto as Car of the Month for May 2009.
You may have seen it at Pride of Longbridge.
Here is the car's history in Tom's own words:

After 3 years without a Metro I purchased this lovely 1.3 Automatic in August 2008.
The intention was to buy a Metro to use as a run around locally
but on picking the car up I couldn't believe how good it was.

The Metro 1.3 Automatic, launched in 1981, was originally a model in its own right
and described by Autocar as as one of the best small automatics.
When the Vanden Plas arrived in 1982 Automatic became an option on this model
but the specific 'Metro Automatic' model was retained until 1987.
Additionally when the new Rover Metro was launched in 1990 Rover still continued to build
Metro 1.3L Clubman Automatic's alongside the new Rover models into 1991
to provide customers with an Automatic model until the CVT option was launched.

A207 GLH, a Metro 1.3 Automatic finished in Cinnabar Red with Shetland Tweed Interior,
rolled out of Austin Rover works at Longbridge, Birmingham the 15th August 1983
and was registered on the 1st September the same year.
Originally a mobility car it was purchased in 1985 by a loving lady owner
who only used the car for infrequent local journeys.
For the next 20 years it was cosseted, garaged and religiously cleaned.
By 2005 it had covered just 17,800 miles.
The car's paintwork is virtually all original and over the winter of 2008
various New Old Stock trim parts and exterior fittings
have been renewed along with powdercoating the wheels.
The car is now only used for shows and local runs - weather permitting!
